National Park Service Closes Public Buildings and Cancels Programs at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park Roads, Trails, and Grounds Remain Accessible
Following guidance from the CDC, recommendations from public health authorities, and in consultation with NPS Public Health Service Officers, public buildings at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park will temporarily close effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The duration of the closure is uncertain.
The closure immediately affects:
- Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center
- Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center
- Chatham Manor
- Stonewall Jackson Death Site
The opening of historic Ellwood on the Wilderness Battlefield, scheduled for April 4, will be delayed until the emergency passes.
Access to restrooms will be limited. The park’s roads, trails and parking areas will remain open. Please continue to practice social distancing at all times.
All scheduled public programs are also cancelled through at least May 9. This includes spring Fit-History hikes and events related to the anniversaries of the Battles of Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House in early May.
Events beyond May 9, including the annual Illumination of the Fredericksburg National Cemetery over Memorial Day weekend, will be considered based on evolving conditions and the ability of partners and staff to safely prepare for those events.
