Wilderness Battlefield

The Wilderness Battlefield National Park, located in Orange and Spotsylvania Counties, Virginia was established by an act of Congress on February 14, 1927, as part of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park (FRSP).

The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park preserves and interprets the Civil War battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House.

Encompassing 7,342 acres spread over 145 square miles in four counties and the City of Fredericksburg; FRSP is the second largest military park in the world.

The park-owned portion of the Wilderness Battlefield comprises 2,774 acres.

The Battlefield today is an oasis of natural beauty where visitors can walk the trails, take a driving tour, and visit the battle sites to learn about the bravery and sacrifices of civilians and soldiers alike.
