USS Chancellorsville to Present Commemorative Plaque
Press release from the National Park Service:
In partnership with the Friends of the USS Chancellorsville, the National Park Service is proud to invite the public to join us at the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center for a remarkable commemorative ceremony on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Captain Curt Renshaw, USN, Commanding Officer, USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) plans to address staff, friends, and visitors at the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center from San Diego, California. Commissioning Committee Chair Joe R. Wilson of the USS Chancellorsville will present an official ship’s letter from the Commanding Officer and plaque from the officers and crew to be presented to the Chancellorsville Battlefield park staff and visitors. Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP Superintendent Lucy Lawliss will receive these gifts on behalf of the National Park Service. These presentation items eloquently connect the Battle of Chancellorsville with the USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Chancellorsville.
The National Park Service plans to permanently display these items in the visitor’s center at a future date. All are invited and encouraged to join us for this free, once in a lifetime event.
